Elon Musk's India visit postponed due to important commitments at Tesla, his electric car company. He was supposed to fly in next week and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussing Tesla's plans to build a factory in India.
Musk explained on X, his social media platform, that he's sorry for the delay but has to focus on Tesla's pressing tasks. However, he expressed eagerness to visit India later this year.
Earlier, Musk had mentioned his excitement about meeting Modi. He also intended to meet with leaders from Indian space technology startups during his visit, including Pawan Chandana from Skyroot Aerospace, which launched India's first privately developed rocket in 2022. Besides heading Tesla, Musk also leads SpaceX, a rocket company, and X, previously known as Twitter.
Reports suggested Tesla India entry, with Musk planning to invest $2 billion to $3 billion in India, primarily for establishing the new Tesla factory. However, these reports were based on anonymous sources cited by Reuters and the Financial Times.
Originally, Musk's trip was scheduled just after India started its massive democratic election. Nearly a billion people out of India's 1.4 billion population are eligible to vote in this election, which started on Friday and will last for over a month. Modi is expected to win another five-year term as prime minister.
Musk's visit to India is postponed, but he remains keen on visiting later. His trip was significant, as it involved discussions about Tesla's investment and potential factory in India, along with meetings with Indian leaders and entrepreneurs.
